thanks for bringing these pictures to us...Andreas,
thanks for bringing these pictures to us.
It is often difficult to comment on difficult to digest images. I actually 'like' the one shown here (two shoes) best, in my opinion the strongest image in the series. But what means 'like' in the face of a such a sad story ? Often we photographers 'like' pictures forgetting the content of them. We look at composition and light and so forth ... all very important components to tell a story, nobody looks at bad pictures (hear hear, editors ...). Our job is to 'arrest' the viewer, no matter what. At the same time we have no illusion about the outcome, the days are over when our pictures changed the minds of politicians and other decision makers. Pictures even stopped wars. Way, way back.
But it is still as important as ever to show these picture stories, I strongly believe that things would be worse if we stopped. So thanks for enduring a difficult time in Haiti and for bringing back these images for us all to see.
PS: After a difficult job I am always mindful of the fact that I am the one going home to a bed and a shower and pumpkin seed bred and hot chocolate. The people in the pictures are staying.Stefan Falkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07088786188861665763noreply@blogger.com
