La Frontera Book published in Germany

My book LA FRONTERA has just been published in Frankfurt, Germany, on May 6th by Edition Faust. 

The book is bilingual, German/Spanish, and available in Europe only. I am working on the American version which will be published in the US in 2015. 

For the La Frontera project I photographed 180 artists and art supporters along the entire 2000 miles long US-Mexican border to show the vibrant cultural side of a region that is usually portrayed by the international media with the sole focus on violent crime. The book has over 180 color photographs, the texts are in German and Spanish. 

The introduction was written by New York based journalist Claudia Steinberg, the closing words are by Claudia Bodin, US correspondent for German ART magazin. The Mexican writers Orfa Alarcon, Dolores Dorantes, Rogelio Guedea, Yuri Herrera and David Toscana added stories about the border exclusively for this book.

Street Photography Workshop 17.08. - 19.08.2012 in Hamburg

Hi Andreas, it is good to know that there are still ways for photographers to get funding for long term projects. I am a very happy recipient of a grant from Stiftung Kulturwerk der VG BILD-KUNST and I can soon start to work on my "LA FRONTERA: Artists along the US Mexican border".  Without a grant it would be impossible, at least in the near future. Thanks VG BILD-KUNST !!

World Premiere: Trailer HERZAU | MOSCOW | STREET

Dear Stefan, the new photobook ist out now !!! AND I created together with my fellow Lukas Thiele a trailer to promote the new book... Our aim was to translate the feeling that you have when taking a photobook in the hand, and watch by scrolling. I think it works. I am looking forward to your comments ...

La Frontera

Hi Andreas, your Moscow book looks fantastic !!! Congratulations and good luck with it ! 

I am leaving for Tijuana, Mexico, tomorrow where I will have an exhibition with images from my LA FRONTERA project at La Casa del Tunel: Art Center March 9 - June 9.  In addition I will lead a 4 day workshop 'Documentary Portrait Photography' at the center. 

The art center is just some yards from the US-Mexican border and sits on a (now closed) tunnel that was dug by drug dealers to transport their illegal ware to the US.  I could not think of a better location for both the show and the photography workshop.

About La Frontera in short: My long term project is only in its first stage. I am planning to travel (in sections) along the Mexican/US border to photograph artists and other creative people in order to show the cultural side of a region which is portrayed by the international media with the sole focus on drug trafficking, illegal immigration and violence.

Hello New York ! Here comes Moscow - my new book, dear Stefan. I know you have other concerns at the moment, you must prepare your exhibition and your workshop. Dear Stafan, a few days ago I photographed in Bremen a small story about the everyday work of a nurse. In addition to the actual report I create in collaboration with Lukas Thiele this short multimedia piece ... (Sorry this piece is only in german language available... )

The other good news is, that now in four days my new book "HERZAU | MOSCOW | STREET" will be printed. I'm really looking forward to the moment when it will be  in bookstores at the end of March 2012.

iPhone photo lecture in NY

Hi Andreas, the New York Apple store Fifth Avenue invited me to present my iPhone pictures during a little lecture this coming monday. I is funny how what started as something just for fun takes on its own life. I never thought my 'Fake Polaroids' (I process my iPhone with the 'shakeitphoto' app) images would go anywhere ...

my series of images from the (insane) bi-annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Show near Louisville in Kentucky was shot on assignment for Focus magazine last year. Now it will be shown during the evening screening on Monday, August 29, 2011, as part of the 23rd edition of the International Festival of Photojournalism "Visa pour l'Image - Perpignan".
